Communication is a virus - Student Presentation 1

Communication is a virus - Progress Crit

ISSUES RAISED
You can't read the hand-written parts of the cards properly.
There are some problems with the colours... different printers, different stock.... not only 2 colours + stock.
We need some examples online.

ACTION TO BE TAKEN
Change the hand-writing, make it clearer.
Change the website design.

GENERAL FEEDBACK
It is a really nice idea, unique.
Actually useful to people.
Could be taken further and into an actual website and company.

Communication is a virus - Partner choice form

Why have you chosen to work with your creative partner? What are your aims?
I have chosen to work with Lizz and Steph because they have skills in areas that I am not strong in such as drawing and photoshop. Our aims are to combine our skills to produce a strong visually engaging piece of work to communicate our problem and it's solution.

What are your specific areas of creative interest in this brief?
I'm interested in the website and it's design. Also in the research part of the brief.

What specific design skills do you have to offer in relation to your chosen brief? How do you intend to use them?
I'm quite good at communication and would like to use this in presenting our work. I also like to look deeply into subjects, therefore would like to add a lot of research to effectively answer our problem. I also find myself reasonably good at layout and am interested in web design, therefore I would like to have a part in the website page designs.

What specific non-design skills do you have to offer in relation to your chosen brief? How do you intend to use them?
I am punctual and when I say I'll do something, I stick to my word.
I am also a good listener and will listen and try out anything ideas that the other two will have.
I am good at putting accross our points, I'd like to have a part in the presentations.

What will your specific roles be in collaboration in relation to your brief?
Communication is essential in group work and it will be really important to keep each other up to date with everything that we do as individuals in regards to the brief.
We need to get into meetings at least once a day to equally share out roles and things to do.
We will also be collaborating our research and idea generation.

What will your individual responsibilities be in relation to your brief?
Research
Website design
Presentation

What will your joint responsibilities be in relation to your brief?
Research
Idea generation
Communication
Agreeing on design direction
Working on feedback comments
Realizing problems and straightening them out.

DESIGN PRINCIPLES

1. What practical skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

I have learnt a lot about research techniques this module... as was intended. I discovered ways to thoroughly look into things which I never knew about before and feel that it has really helped with the briefs that we were set. I've discovered the importance of the research part of the work, the briefs which we were set which allowed us a lot of time for research are some of my best work. It really does all tie in.

I also am happy with the skills I've acquired in Photoshop and Illustrator. Especially in the last brief, I used them as best as I could and learnt a lot in the process. My skills are definitely a lot better at the end of this module than the start.

2. What approaches to/methods of problem solving have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

I have developed my research methods a lot. I never knew about the different sorts (primary, secondary, quantitative and qualitative) and it has really helped when it comes to idea development having the back-up research to help. Particularly the 'collection 100' brief, over christmas I researched so much into my chosen topic that I knew exactly what I was talking about/ dealing with when it came to the rest of the brief.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

I think that, with the techniques i learnt in regards to photoshop and ilustrator, my skills have got to a level where I can actually produce work that's worthy of being seen. I was really happy with how the shoes came out at the end of the 'collection 100' brief. I intend to use these programmes a lot in future work. I also think that the time management session we had really helped me realize I needed to sort a few things out, particularly the task where we wrote down exactly what we did in a week... I realized I spend far too much time doing nothing/procrastinating. It really helped me get to grips with it.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these more fully?

I feel that my weaknesses this brief were definitely down to poor time management, and being ill and stuck for 2 weeks, it really put me behind and made me rush things, particularly my end result. Also the indecisiveness. I could not focus on one idea by the end of it and it really set me back. In a way, i think I may have had too many ideas... all conflicting.
I will definitely be focusing on my time management next time, really prioritising the work I need to do.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

1. Work out my time management. Prioritise properly.

2. Work as hard when first set a brief as at the end.

3. When doing group work, communicate the roles and input better.

4. Use a lot more primary research in my work.

5. Stay later in the studio. I feel that the days I stay until 7/8 o'clock I get a lot more done.

Are there any things we could have done differently that would have benefitted your progress?

No. I feel this module was really well organized.

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas:

The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self-evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
