Sound recording - For 'TENA' advert - Grand Central Sound Studio

This afternoon we were asked by Leslie if we wanted to sit in on a sound recording for an advert they had created. Of course we weren't going to say no this opportunity.

We sat down, in silence. They were doing a re-run of a voice over by actress Susan George for and advert for TENA Protective Underwear following a change in the script.
It was amazing how many times she had to say 3 lines before they got what they wanted.
As she lived in Somerset, an ISDN link was set up with a studio in Bristol so that she could do it over the line without  having to come up to London. Fascinating.
We were working with this guy at Grand Central Sound Studios,  who really knew what he was doing. I cannot describe how big the sound desk he was working at was - More buttons and nobs than I have ever seen.

It was very interesting to see how they did something as simple as a voice over. They wrote down each take, and which bits of each they liked... and at the end tried it out with the best bit from each. Eventually coming up with a perfect combination to put over the rest of the advert. Which, in this case, was a lot of bums... and the same song playing over and over and over again for about an hour and a half. Both of us left singing "Shake your bootayyy". How irritating.
It was very interesting for us to see all different stages in the production of an advert. I am so glad we had the opportunity to see this part of post-production. Cannot wait to see it on the television.
